Exercise Alleviated My Depression

-When I was 14, my mother divorced for the second time. The depression I got from this lasted 4 years! My father never even visited me.
At first, the typical signs of deep depression set in. I was always in a bad mood, was apathetic about my life to the point where I wouldn’t even bother changing my clothes from one day to the next.
At night, I would sit on my bed until long after midnight just crying. When time passed, the symptoms of the depression still lingered for me. I wouldn’t wake up on my own before noon.
I started to skip breakfast because of that; lost interest in the sports I used to play, and dropped about 10 pounds by the time I was 17. I still had sleep problems, not being able to fall asleep before 1 a.m.
When I was 19, I finally decided to do something about it and started to exercise. This made a dramatic difference in my life. I was at last able to fall asleep immediately after going to bed.
I continued exercising and gained back weight. After some time, the depression also started to go away! I wouldn’t find myself criticizing myself all the time, as I had done before, and my pessimistic thoughts were less often.
I always knew exercise was of great help to lose weight, but in my case I gained weight as well as peace of mind, it can be a very powerful tool indeed!
Try it, it really helps - Desi
